Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

Simmer Sleep ("Simmer", "we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

Simmer Sleep is operated by Zenworks, based in the Netherlands.

You can manage or permanently delete your SIMMER account directly within the app. For complete instructions, visit our account deletion page.

1. Information We Collect

Account information: When you create a Simmer account, we collect your email address and account credentials to authenticate you and deliver the service.

Health and sleep data: With your explicit permission, Simmer reads sleep data from Apple Health (iOS) and Google Health Connect (Android). This includes:

  • Sleep session timing (bedtime, wake time, total duration)
  • Sleep stage breakdowns (light sleep, deep sleep, REM sleep, awake time)

This data is used exclusively to provide SIMMER's sleep tracking, Sleep Journal, sleep insights, personalised recommendations, and other sleep-related features within the app.

Simmer compares sleep outcomes with the stories, soundscapes, and rituals used the night before. Over time, this allows Simmer to identify which content and routines appear to be associated with better sleep and provide more relevant recommendations.

Health and sleep data is never sold, shared with advertisers, or used for advertising purposes. It is used exclusively to provide SIMMER's sleep tracking, sleep insights, personalised recommendations, and related in-app features.

Usage data: We collect limited usage analytics — for example, which content types are played and how rituals are configured — to improve the reliability, usability, and performance of SIMMER. This information is never used for advertising and is not sold to third parties.

Device tokens: If you enable bedtime reminders, we store a device notification token to deliver those reminders. This token is used only to send the reminders you have requested.

Subscription data: If you subscribe to Simmer Plus, your purchase is processed by Apple App Store or Google Play. We receive confirmation of your subscription status but never receive or store your payment card details.

Home automation:When you activate a scene through a supported home automation platform (such as Apple Home), the command is executed locally on your device through the platform's native framework. SIMMER does not receive, collect, store, or upload any information about your home configuration — including room names, accessory names, scenes, or automation definitions. Home automation in SIMMER operates entirely locally on your device.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Authenticate your account and provide the Simmer service
  • Import and display your sleep history
  • Generate personalised sleep insights and ritual recommendations
  • Identify which stories, soundscapes, and routines appear to improve your sleep over time
  • Send bedtime reminders you have enabled
  • Improve the quality and reliability of the app
  • Manage subscription status and premium access

We do not sell personal information or health data.

We do not use health data for advertising, marketing, profiling unrelated to sleep improvement, or any purpose outside Simmer's sleep features.

Our legal grounds

Under the GDPR we rely on different grounds depending on what the data is used for:

  • To provide the service you signed up for (performance of a contract) — your account, your subscription, and features you use directly, such as your Recent list, your saved rituals and blends, and playback.
  • Your explicit consent — importing sleep data from Apple Health or Health Connect, and using it both to show your Sleep Journal and to adapt what Simmer suggests. Sleep data is treated as health data, so we ask you separately inside the app before any import, and you can withdraw at any time in Settings → Privacy. Simmer works fully without it.
  • Our legitimate interests — deciding which content to show on your home screen, and a limited internal view of when an account was last active, which we use to answer support questions. We have assessed these against your interests and rights. You can object at any time by contacting privacy@simmer.now.
  • Our legitimate interests in security and reliability — crash and error diagnostics. These help us keep the app working and are not used to build a profile of you.

3. Health Data — Additional Details

Simmer accesses health and sleep data only after you grant explicit permission through Apple Health (iOS) or Google Health Connect (Android).

You may revoke these permissions at any time through your device's health settings.

Revoking access prevents Simmer from importing new health data but does not automatically delete health data previously stored in your account. Previously stored data may be deleted at any time — see our account deletion page for full instructions.

To provide sleep history, sleep insights, and personalised recommendations, Simmer securely stores health and sleep data associated with your account. This allows you to review historical trends, track long-term sleep patterns, and maintain continuity across devices.

Simmer does not sell, license, share, or transfer health data to advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties, and never uses it for advertising purposes.

4. Sleep Together — Sharing With a Partner

Sleep Together lets you share a listening session with one other person. Sharing is always explicit: nothing is shared automatically, and simply opening the app or playing something never notifies anyone.

When you pair with a partner and start a shared session, that person can see your display name, what is currently playing, and whether you are present in the session. They cannot see your email address, your sleep data, your Sleep Archive, your subscription status, or anything else in your account.

Either of you can end the pairing at any time, from the Sleep Partner screen. Ending it — or signing out, or deleting your account — stops all future sharing immediately and removes your name from your former partner's device.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account and associated data for as long as your account remains active. Your Sleep Archive belongs to you — SIMMER holds it in trust, not ownership.

You may permanently delete your SIMMER account and your SIMMER Sleep Archive at any time. Our dedicated account deletion page is the canonical source for full instructions, including how to delete directly inside the app, how to submit a deletion request by email, and what data is and is not removed.

All associated personal data, sleep data, preferences, and usage history will be permanently removed. We aim to complete deletion requests within 30 days, or sooner where possible, in accordance with applicable law. Once deleted, data cannot be recovered.

You may also request deletion of specific data categories — such as your sleep history — without deleting your entire SIMMER account. Contact privacy@simmer.now to make this request.

Some data is removed automatically, without you needing to ask:

  • Recent activity — the record of what you have played, which powers your Recent list and personalises your home screen. We keep the most recent 200 entries, and any entry becomes eligible for automatic deletion 365 days after it was created. Automatic deletion runs in the background and typically completes within about 24 hours of an entry becoming eligible.
  • Session records — a record of how a listening session unfolded (what played, when it was paused, when it ended), used to show your history and to continue where you left off.

Where data has been combined into overall statistics that no longer identify anyone, those combined statistics cannot be separated back out and are not removed by a deletion request.

6. Data Security

We apply technical and organisational measures to protect your personal and health data. These include encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest by our cloud infrastructure where applicable, access controls restricting data to systems and personnel necessary to operate the service, and regular security reviews.

7. Third-Party Services

Simmer uses the following third-party services:

  • Google Firebase — authentication (Firebase Auth), user data storage (Cloud Firestore), audio content delivery (Firebase Storage), push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging), and server-side download authorisation (Cloud Functions)
  • Google Firebase Crashlytics — crash reports that help us find and fix bugs. These are not linked to your account: we do not attach your user ID to them. They contain technical information such as the error, your device model, and the app version. They still include an identifier for your app installation, so they remain personal data and are covered by this policy.
  • RevenueCat — subscription management and entitlement verification
  • Apple App Store / Google Play — subscription billing and payment processing
  • Resend — sending transactional email, such as password resets and replies to your messages
  • Upstash — short-lived rate limiting that protects our services from abuse
  • Cloudflare — spam protection on our contact form
  • Vercel — hosting for simmer.now, including standard server logs

Each third party processes data according to their own privacy policies. We do not permit these services to use your data for their own advertising purposes.

8. Where Your Data Is Processed

Your account, your Sleep Journal, and the content you create are stored in the European Union (Google Cloud, Netherlands region).

Some processing takes place in the United States. This includes parts of our server-side infrastructure, and services provided by Google, Apple, RevenueCat, Resend, Upstash, Cloudflare and Vercel.

These transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, an adequacy decision adopted by the European Commission, under which our providers are certified. Where a provider is not covered by that framework, or if it ceases to apply, transfers are made under the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, which our agreements with these providers already incorporate.

You may request a copy of the safeguards we rely on by contacting privacy@simmer.now.

9. Children's Privacy

Simmer is intended for users aged 16 years and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under the age of 16.

If you believe that someone under the age of 16 has provided personal information through Simmer, please contact privacy@simmer.now. We will investigate the report and, where appropriate, delete the information promptly in accordance with applicable law.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Receive your data in a portable format

To exercise any of these rights, contact privacy@simmer.now. We will respond within 30 days. To delete your SIMMER account specifically, see our dedicated account deletion page.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by email. The date at the top of this page reflects when the policy was last updated.
